Efficient and robust tree model reconstruction from laser scanned data points

چکیده
This paper presents a reconstruction pipeline for recovering a tree model from laser scanned data points. The process is made up of three main steps: segmentation, reconstruction and modeling. Based on a variational k-means clustering algorithm, cylindrical components and ramified regions of data points are identified and located. An adjacency graph is then built from neighborhood information of components. Simple heuristics allow us to extract a tree structure and identified branches from the graph. Finally, a B-spline model is computed to give a compact and accurate reconstruction of the branching system. I.3.3Computer GraphicsMethodology and Techniques

متن کاملReconstruction of Tree Crown Shape from Scanned Data
Reconstruction of a real tree from scattered scanned points is a new challenge in virtual reality. Although many progresses are made on main branch structures and overall shape of a tree, reconstructions are still not satisfactory in terms of silhouette and details. We do think that 3D reconstruction of the tree crown shapes may help to constrain accurate reconstruction of complete real tree ge...
متن کاملReconstructing Tree Crowns from Laser Scanner Data for Feature Extraction
The objective of this study was to carry out reconstruction of single tree crowns from laser scanner data to use the obtained vector model for feature extraction. The reconstruction was implemented in several stages. First, pulses which have reflected from each tree were marked off from the original point cloud. Ground points were then separated from all points using digital terrain model and a...
متن کاملAutomatic Extraction of Building Features from Terrestrial Laser Scanning
Realistic 3D city models are required for many purposes such as urban planning and safety analysis. The traditional modeling methods are mainly based on manual or semi-automatic reconstruction from close-range images, which are rather time-consuming. The lack of fully automatic reconstruction is mainly due to the difficulty to recover building structures from close-range images. The terrestrial...
متن کاملProcessing Tree Point Clouds Using Gaussian Mixture Models
While traditionally used for surveying and photogrammetric fields, laser scanning is increasingly being used for a wider range of more general applications. In addition to the issues typically associated with processing point data, such applications raise a number of new complications, such as the complexity of the scenes scanned, along with the sheer volume of data. Consequently, automated pro...
